Love of Family
Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time
6 So we are always confident; even though we know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord— 7 for we walk by faith, not by sight. 8 Yes, we do have confidence, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. 9 So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him. 10 For all of us must appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each may receive recompense for what has been done in the body, whether good or evil. ~ 2 Corinthians 5:6-10 New Revised Standard Version, Anglicized Catholic Edition (NRSVACE)
The following topic truly breaks my heart we need to act now!
~ Brother Brian
Insite One: Saint Paul, also known by the first century Jews as Saul of Tarsus, a man who savagely and brutally hunted down and kills hundreds of early Christians then was confronted by the spirit of Christ on the road to on the road Damascus. Blinded Saul was suddenly, miraculous, if not supernaturally converted becoming one of the most potent apostles of all time! This same man wrote the above-inspired letter to the Corinthians. In this scripture, we see the reason to be confident in Christ and we are reminded that as human beings we walk by faith, not by sight. He clearly states as only Paul could that we are responsible for our sin while here on earth. I mention this first because of the atrocities of President Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions in their approach to dissuade people from coming across the southern border, misinterpreting and twisting existing law to separate children from their biologic parents who are seeking the protection of the United States. I mention Saint Paul because first this Sunday’s Second Reading is the scripture above and secondly Jeff Sessions this past Thursday tried to use Saint Paul’s written words (Romans 13: 1-7) out of context to justify this gross and perverse practice of separating a family simply because they crossed our border. Need I remind everyone the United States for the most part is a nation of morally sound doctrine, but in the era of Trump – Christians everywhere need to remain confident that God see’s, hears and knows the outcome and God alone will punish these two men of hardened hearts as they have not upheld God’s Neutral Law as it relates to what is happening on America’s borders – i.e. the destruction of Human Families. Now am I advocating to do nothing? No! I am just saying that our response needs to be a united and resoundingly Christian one; a response absent from the political world who seems to be able to do nothing about anything!

Getting Back to the Basics!
As written in The Catholic Faith Handbook for Youth, 3rd Edition by Saint Mary’s Press Chapter 27, ‘Honoring Family’ page 302, which states clearly, “No one has the right to go against God’s Law, to ask us or force us to do something that is morally wrong. Further, civil authorities, those who make and enforce laws, must always respect people’s dignity and rights, especially those of families and people who are disadvantaged.”
In this way, Trump no matter how many times he says that he hates what’s going on was also the one who ordered law enforcement to arrest and separate children from their parents in the first place. No other administration be it Democrat or Republican has ever in the history of America resorted to such cruelty and depravity. Jefferson Beauregard (Jeff) Sessions III in his career has always been the ‘wolf’ seeking to prosecute disadvantaged people; in many ways, he is the embodiment of a modern-day Saul of Tarsus before he found Jesus in the desert. Like Saul, Jeff Sessions seeks to use the letter of the law to bring hardship and pain rather than using the spirit of the law to bring relief and understanding to those less fortunate than he. On the ground, I realize that all border agents are just doing their job as instructed by the government, but I truly feel these same agents can refuse on moral grounds. I feel every Christian needs to make a stand on this issue and force Trump and Sessions to reverse their un-Godly policy! Just look at this child who will be separated from her mother.
Moral Question: How does this make you feel? How is this Christian? How does this exhibit love?

Love for One Another
8 Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. 9 The commandments, ‘You shall not commit adultery; You shall not murder; You shall not steal; You shall not covet’; and any other commandment, are summed up in this word, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 10 Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfilling of the law. ~ Romans 13:8-10 New Revised Standard Version, Anglicized Catholic Edition (NRSVACE)
Insight Two: Dear Brothers and Sisters, I say unto you do good all the days of your life, harden not your hearts and live cleanly, seeking to always please God. Our authority is not to speak in such ways as to serve ourselves, but to support society selflessly all the days of your life. Therefore, know that “The duties of authorities in a community, state, or nation are like the responsibilities parents have for the welfare of the families. As a member of the larger human family, called society, we must work together with our leaders to build up the moral environment of the world we live in, making it easier to be good. Our actions and attitudes must contribute to the good of society in a spirit of truth, justice, solidarity, and freedom.” ~ The Catholic Faith Handbook for Youth, 3rd Edition by Saint Mary’s Press Chapter 27, ‘Honoring Family’ pg. 302.
So, speak as a human being always working for the truth and for each other in accordance with the will of our Almighty God, the Father. As a world community speaking in one voice can we truly set the moral code God would have us live by. I ask all of you today to first consider these things as not a matter of state, but a matter of social justice. In the words of Pope Benedict, the XVI who said as it relates to the family, “How important it is, therefore, that every child coming into the world be welcomed by the warmth of a family! External comforts do not matter; Jesus was born in a stable and had a manger as his first cradle, but the love of Mary and Joseph made him feel the tenderness and beauty of being loved. Children need this: the love of their father and mother. It is this that gives them security and, as they grow, enables them to discover the meaning of life.” ~ Angelus, December 26, 2010. Again, it is in this way the leadership of America is at fault! We cannot continue violating human rights, ignoring Gods Neutral Law, and impose one’s will upon the natural needs of a child for their biological parents. From the misrepresentation of Trump to the enforcement of an inhumane policy by Sessions needs to end! But we do this through solidarity; every person of faith calling out for truth and justice for all the families who have been split up and sent thousands of miles away from each other. Please take action by calling your State and Federal Representatives and sign the following petition.

Note on Fathers Day: The work of a father is usually unnoticed or even recognized to its fullest in our society but fatherhood is one of two pillars every child needs in their life. It is a duty which brings pride, hope, a source of love, and ultimately lifelong guidance to the family and children so blessed to have a good father in their mists. So, as a father I say to you love your father, show your appreciation today to let him feel your love and thanks for all he does for you. Look at Saint Joseph for the example, and pray today to the Lord for your father if you cannot be with him. The greatest acts of love always come from the smallest actions of gratitude.
To my father Franklyn Joseph Stark – “I love you, dad.”
Let Us Pray
PRAYER FOR PROTECTION OF ALL FAMILIES
Dear Lord, I ask for your protection over all your children here on earth, especially the children at America’s border, our brothers and sisters who have hardened their hearts to make such a policy possible, and for every human being in isolation wondering if they will ever be reunited with their biological family. Please lead us with Your mighty hands today and always. Deliver us from any enemy and evil that try to hinder our way. Do not let the ways of the enemy blind our eyes. We know that You love us and will be there when we cry out your wonderful name. Please watch over us and guide us all safely throughout this day, so that we may all arrive safely back home to you our loving and gracious, Father.
