16 Better a little with the fear of the Lord, than great wealth with turmoil. ~ Proverbs 15:16

I remember when I was a boy and seeing everyone in great debt. I remember asking myself what motivated my grandparents, my parents, my aunts, and my uncles? In the face of such great debt what made them so happy, so trusting in God? Couldn’t it have been said that God did not bless them with anything other than debt and fear? I remember asking my grandmother that question and I remember her response as if it was yesterday. She said, “Boy… I would rather be afraid of God and poor; live a life filled with God and know that I am blessed, than to be rich and cursed and to know the gates of heaven are forever closed to me.” ~ Pauline Stark, 1973
